Several cultural activists in Nimroz are concerned about the potential collapse of some historical monuments in the province.
They warn that if excavations and construction around these monuments are not stopped, many of these valuable structures could face destruction.
The historical fortress of Khash is one of these monuments. With a thousand-year history dating back to the ancient civilization of Sistan, it is in the southern Khashrod district and is now at risk of collapse.
Mahmood Mahmoodi, a cultural expert, said: “Historical monuments reflect the history of the country, and the government must prevent their destruction. Officials should seriously stop excavation and construction around these structures.”
Another cultural activist, Jan Mohammad Alkozai, said: “If attention is not given to the preservation and care of these monuments, these historical structures will collapse, and these buildings represent the country’s history.”
Abdul Karim, a resident of Nimroz, said: “The government must prevent the destruction of historical monuments, as some of these relics are on the verge of destruction and need restoration and repair.”
However, local officials state that they are protecting the historical monuments and do not allow anyone to damage them.
Habibullah Elham, head of Information and Culture for Nimroz, said: “We protect the historical monuments and do not allow anyone to damage them. Additionally, we have prevented the construction of many houses near these historical monuments.”
According to reports, over 40 historical monuments in Nimroz have been registered so far. Nimroz is considered one of the country’s ancient provinces, with many of its historical artifacts being remnants of the ancient Sistan civilization.
