The German Federal Court has announced that the trial of an Afghan man who attacked a police officer with a knife last May, killing him and injuring several others, will soon begin.
According to the court, the suspect had ideological ties to ISIS.
The court's statement reads: "At the beginning of May 2024 at the latest, he decided to carry out an attack on alleged non-believers in Germany. To do so, he went to the market square in Mannheim on May 31, 2024, where the association "Citizens' Movement Pax Europa" ("BPE") was preparing a rally critical of Islam. Armed with a large hunting knife, the accused initially stabbed the main speaker of the BPE without warning."
Following this incident, Germany has implemented stricter immigration rules for Afghan migrants.
Meanwhile, migrant rights activists emphasize that immigrants must adhere to the host country's laws.
Asifa Stanekzai, a migrant rights activist, said: "Migrants must respect the constitution of the host country and consider its civil laws and social issues."
Ali Reza Karimi, another migrant rights activist, added: "Following the laws reflects respect for the security and culture of the host society, which fosters better integration, a more favorable life, and greater support from the host country."
Meanwhile, the German Interior Minister also announced during a parliamentary session that the country would continue its program to repatriate Afghan criminal migrants, with more deportations planned.
