The Iranian Human Rights Organization has reported the execution of 12 Afghan citizens over the past month in Iran.
According to information from the organization, Afghan migrants were executed in various prisons across Iran.
A section of the Iranian Human Rights Organization's report states: "In the past month, at least 144 people, including 12 Afghan citizens, 4 women, a Jewish-Iranian citizen, and a person with mental disabilities, were executed in different prisons across Iran."
Meanwhile, some legal experts have stated that a comprehensive investigation should be conducted into how Afghan citizens are executed in Iran, ensuring their access to legal institutions.
"Afghans sentenced to execution in Iran must have the Embassy of the Islamic Emirate in Tehran informed so that they can appoint defense lawyers for the prisoners and defend their rights. Without this, executing Afghans in Iran arbitrarily and without informing Afghanistan's embassy is, in my opinion, unethical and inhumane," said Salim Paigir, a political affairs analyst.
"It is essential for Afghanistan's embassies in host countries to facilitate diplomatic dialogues. On the other hand, they should pay greater attention to prisoners who face financial challenges in hiring legal counsel or lack close relatives to follow up on their cases," said Asifa Stanekzai, a migrants' rights activist.
Earlier, the Iranian judiciary’s Deputy for International Affairs stated that nearly 95% of the foreign prisoners in Iran are Afghan citizens.
On November 14 an Iranian delegation visited Kabul to discuss the situation of prisoners from both countries and their transfer with officials from the Islamic Emirate.
