Pakistani media have reported the possibility of Mohammad Sadiq being appointed as Pakistan's Special Representative for Afghanistan.
The Pakistani newspaper Dawn, citing sources, reported that Pakistan plans to reappoint its former Special Representative for Afghanistan to this position.
According to the report, this Pakistani diplomat held the position of Special Representative for Afghanistan from 2020 to 2022.
Dawn writes: "Pakistan has decided to reappoint Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq as its special representative to Afghanistan, Dawn has learnt."
Nasir Shafiq, a university professor, said: "If previous Special Representatives of Pakistan for Afghanistan were successful during the previous government, and later someone is appointed who has not improved relations, then it is possible that a Special Representative will be selected to improve relations."
The Pakistani government has not officially commented on the appointment of Mohammad Sadiq as of now.
Aziz Maraj, a former diplomat, said: "He is an experienced and strong diplomat with a background from 1399 solar year to 1401 in Afghanistan, and has precise knowledge of Afghan issues; however, this will not necessarily have an impact on improving or worsening relations."
Previously, Mohammad Asif Durrani was dismissed from the position of Special Representative for Afghanistan in September of 2024; a matter that Pakistani media attributed to differences in Pakistan’s policy toward Afghanistan.
