Chaman Protesters Threaten to Halt Pakistan’s Trade Routes

The Chaman Protest Movement has announced that in response to Pakistan’s refusal to meet their demands, they will block Pakistan's exports and imports at the Chaman–Spin Boldak crossing.

Members of the movement stated that they will no longer fall for the double-dealing policies of Pakistani authorities.

Sadiq Khan Achakzai, spokesperson for the Chaman Protest Movement, said: “If the Chaman–Spin Boldak route is not reopened soon, we will not allow Pakistan to export food and non-food items to Central Asian countries through Chaman. We demand that our requests be addressed promptly.”

Abdul Khaliq Haqmal, a leader of the Chaman Protest Movement, said: “We demand the ability to travel in tribal areas with national ID cards and recognition cards as we did in the past, and we reject restrictions in this region.”

Members of the movement also said they will prevent any individuals from exploiting their protests for political purposes.

Wali Mohammad, a member of the Chaman Protest Movement, stated: “We will no longer allow those who politically exploit our sit-ins. They will have no place among us anymore.”

The Pakistani government has yet to comment on the Chaman Protest Movement’s latest warning.

For the past year and a half, protests by the Chaman Protest Movement, involving thousands of Chaman residents, have continued in response to the imposition of passport and visa restrictions for crossing the Chaman–Spin Boldak crossing.
