Some Afghan migrants in Iran complain about mistreatment and restrictions they are facing.
They say that in addition to their economic challenges, issues such as the disconnection of SIM cards and higher bus fares have added to their problems.
"The disconnection of SIM cards and bank cards is among the issues worth mentioning. According to the new regulations of the Ministry of Roads and Transportation, Afghan migrants must pay higher amounts to use buses,” said Asadullah Zairi, one of the migrants in Iran.
"The situation for migrants in Iran is very bad. The Iranian government treats migrants in a very rude and inappropriate manner,” said Farzana Khaleqi, another migrant.
Meanwhile, some migrant rights activists say that Iran's focus on undocumented migrants has made conditions even more restrictive for them.
"Our migrants are at risk of forced deportation, and Afghan migrants in Iran are severely struggling with life challenges,” said Nazar Nazari, a migrant rights activist.
Recently, Sardar Qasem Rezaei, the Deputy Police Chief of Iran, stated that both fixed and mobile businesses for undocumented migrants are prohibited in the country.
He also emphasized that efforts should be made to reduce the employment of undocumented migrants.
An excerpt from an Iranian media report states: "Preventative measures such as warnings and notices regarding the employment of unauthorized foreigners in businesses and public places have intensified, and greater efforts are being made to clear businesses of unauthorized foreigners."
The challenges for Afghan migrants are not limited to Iran; Turkey and Pakistan are also among the countries where the deportation of Afghan nationals has intensified.
Mohammad Jamal Muslim, a migrant rights activist in Turkey, said: "Migrants face many difficulties, both in terms of employment and security, to the extent that they cannot move freely in their environment.
Previously, an official from Iran's Ministry of Interior stated that in the past three years, at least three million Afghan nationals who had entered Iran illegally were deported. However, according to these individuals, due to problems in their country, they have returned to Iran.
