The Ministry of Information and Culture has announced that since the establishment of the Naming Commission for Sacred Places, the names of more than twenty roads, intersections, and historical sites have been changed or revised.
Some of the intersections that have been renamed are:
- Abdul Haq Intersection to Makroriyan
- Massoud Intersection to Public Health
- Deh-Afghan Intersection to Culture
- The former University of Education Intersection to Book
Khabib Ghufran, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Information and Culture, said: "Since its establishment, this commission has managed to rename or restore more than twenty roads, intersections, and historical sites to their previous or revised names."
A number of Kabul residents have expressed different opinions regarding the renaming of intersections.
Ahmadullah, one of Kabul’s residents, said: "Renaming intersections based on Islamic values is a very good idea."
Ahmad, another Kabul resident, stated: "Currently, the intersections are still known by their old names, and it will take some time for people to get used to the new names."
It is worth mentioning that a meeting of the Naming Commission for Sacred Places, chaired by Atiqullah Azizi, was held, during which it was confirmed that the names of the new Fazil Beg and Dawan Beg streets in District 5 of Kabul would remain unchanged. Similarly, the names of the Security, Karzai, and Prime Ministerial Towns were also preserved without any changes.
