A delegation from the Supreme Court of the Islamic Emirate, currently visiting Iran, has discussed alternative measures to the death penalty for Afghans in Iran with Iranian judicial officials.
The delegation has also requested a list of Afghans sentenced to death in Iran.
According to the Supreme Court's statement, Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, has committed to transferring 1,500 Afghan prisoners to Afghanistan in the near future.
Abdul Rahim Rashid, the head of media and foreign relations of the Supreme Court, stated: "Kazem Gharibabadi has pledged to treat Afghan migrants and prisoners in Iran with Islamic brotherhood, respect their rights, and transfer 1,500 prisoners to Afghanistan soon."
The Islamic Emirate delegation also emphasized the creation of educational and employment opportunities for Afghan citizens in Iran and has urged Iranian officials to refrain from harassing and detaining Afghan migrants.
The head of media of the Supreme Court said that the delegation also visited a juvenile detention center in Iran.
Abdul Rahim Rashid said: "We have asked Iranian authorities to address the problems of Afghan prisoners, especially minors, and to provide them with educational and vocational training opportunities."
"Instead of harassing Afghan migrants, the host country should support them and utilize their youthful workforce for the development of the country," said Ismail Roshangar, a university scholar.
Earlier, the Iranian human rights organization reported that the number of Afghans executed in Iran has reached 90 since the Islamic Emirate took power in Afghanistan.
