Completion of Water Diversion Dams in 142 Districts

The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development has announced the completion of the construction of small water diversion dams in 142 districts across various provinces of the country.

Noorulhadi Adel, the spokesperson for the ministry, stated that the construction of these small dams cost 126 million afghani, which was funded from the ministry’s budget.

“We initiated projects for the construction of small dams and alternative projects in 142 districts, which have now been completed, allowing our compatriots to benefit from them. These dams have been built at a cost of approximately 126 million afghani,” said Noorulhadi Adel.

Meanwhile, some experts consider the construction of small dams to be valuable in the development of rural agriculture and the replenishment of groundwater.

Adel further added that the ministry has provided 350 drinking water networks in 34 provinces of the country, and work on another 150 networks is ongoing.

In this regard, some experts view the construction of water diversion dams as effective for water management and the development of agriculture in Afghanistan.

“We can utilize this potential, manage water for the agricultural sector, play a significant role in energy production, and create job opportunities,” said Lal Zazai, an economic affairs expert.

“We need to free our country from economic problems and farmers from agricultural challenges so that we can build a strong economy and manage the country’s water resources in the best possible way,” said Najibullah Seddiqi, another economic affairs expert.

Climate change, which has resulted in droughts and devastating floods in most parts of Afghanistan, is considered a serious challenge that has harmed the agricultural sector and significantly reduced groundwater levels.
