The Institute for Economics & Peace has reported a decline in terrorism levels in Afghanistan in its Global Terrorism Index 2025 following the rise of the Islamic Emirate to power.
According to this report, for the second consecutive year, Afghanistan is not among the top five countries most affected by terrorism, ranking ninth instead.
The Institute for Economics & Peace stated: “For the second consecutive year, Afghanistan was not among the five countries most impacted by terrorism, marking its best ranking since the Index’s inception.”
The report further highlights that as the Islamic Emirate nears four years in power, it has maintained relative internal stability.
Additionally, the Islamic Emirate pledged that security is ensured across the country and that Afghan soil poses no threat to any nation.
Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, stated: "Our intelligence forces are fully capable and vigilant, neutralizing security threats before they occur. It is also a fact that, to a great extent, the activities and movements of unauthorized and destructive groups have been curbed."
"The fight against terrorism is a global responsibility. However, Afghanistan has shouldered this responsibility alone for the past three and a half years. Despite this, no evidence has emerged in this period indicating the presence of any terrorist base in Afghanistan that could pose a threat to other countries," said Abdul Sadeq Hamidzoi, a political analyst.
The Global Terrorism Index also noted that over the past year, relations between the Islamic Emirate and Pakistan have deteriorated due to border tensions and Pakistan’s airstrikes on TTP hideouts in Afghanistan.
