Nazari: Refugee Treatment Should Align with Islamic, Global Standards

As the deportation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan intensifies, the Ministry of Economy of the Islamic Emirate has called on Pakistan to respect Islamic values and international principles in its treatment of refugees.

The deputy of the ministry, Abdul Latif Nazari, also appealed to the international community to unfreeze Afghanistan’s assets so that the funds can be used to address refugee-related challenges.

"We urge neighboring countries to adjust their approach and treatment of our compatriots in a way that aligns both with Islamic values and international migration protocols," Abdul Latif Nazari said.

Meanwhile, Sardar Ahmad Shakeeb, acting ambassador of the Islamic Emirate in Islamabad, in a meeting with the representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), said many refugees refrain from approaching UN offices due to various difficulties.

He requested that the UNHCR deploy mobile teams to Afghan refugee camps across Pakistan.

Shakeeb said: "Our request was for mobile teams to be sent to camps and other locations where Afghan refugees are concentrated."

Migration rights activist Nazar Nazari commented: "The problems and challenges of refugees require diplomatic dialogue. Meetings should be held between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and Pakistan so that Pakistan can negotiate directly with the Afghan government and reach a mutual understanding."

A number of Afghan refugees in Pakistan have urged both the host government and the Islamic Emirate to pay attention to their dire and uncertain situation.

"The deportation of individuals with ACC cards continues. Hundreds and thousands of refugees are moving from Karachi, Punjab, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad toward Torkham," Malik Shinwari, an Afghan refugee in Pakistan said.

Lal Rahman, another Afghan refugee in Pakistan, stated: "Our request from both governments is to sit together and find a solution that allows Afghan refugees to remain here."

Meanwhile, former President Hamid Karzai has also called on Pakistan to treat Afghan refugees based on humanitarian principles and good neighborly relations.

He further appealed to international organizations, local traders, and investors to provide urgent and effective support for returning refugees.
