Iran and Saudi Arabia Execute 3 Afghan Nationals

As part of an ongoing trend of Afghan refugees being executed, three Afghan nationals were executed this week in Iran and Saudi Arabia on charges related to drug trafficking.

According to Gulf media reports, one of the individuals, identified as Badshah Qul Sulaimani, had allegedly hidden narcotics inside his stomach and was arrested in Saudi Arabia.

Political analyst Sayed Ebdullah Sadiq stated: “Prisoners, wherever they are — in Iran, Pakistan, or Saudi Arabia — if those countries have good relations with Afghanistan, as they should, they must hand over Afghan prisoners to Afghanistan.”

At the same time, the Iran Human Rights Organization reported that two Afghan nationals were executed in Iran this week for drug-related charges.

The organization also said that Iran has executed 80 Afghan prisoners so far this year alone.

Experts are calling on the Afghan caretaker government to initiate negotiations with host countries for the repatriation of Afghan prisoners.

Political analyst Yousuf Amin Zazai said: “It is the responsibility of governments to talk with countries where Afghans are accused of crimes to ensure their rights are upheld.”

Another political analyst, Fazl-ur-Rahman Oria, told TOLOnews: “According to the agreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Afghanistan, Iran is obligated to transfer all Afghan prisoners in an orderly manner to the Afghan side. This action by Iran violates that agreement.”

The execution of 80 Afghans in Iran last year has sparked concern among several organizations.
