Mujahid: Relations with Ankara ‘Further Improving’

Mohammad Zubair Wadan, the acting ambassador of the Islamic Emirate in Turkey, met with Nuh Yılmaz, deputy foreign minister of Turkey, to discuss the expansion of diplomatic relations and bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, Mohammad Zubair Wadan emphasized facilitating the transfer of Afghan prisoners and the issuance of visas for Afghans.

The two sides also discussed the establishment of a joint commission between Afghanistan and Turkey in areas such as trade, transit, and culture.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said that relations between Kabul and Ankara are currently improving.

Zabihullah Mujahid stated: "Afghanistan-Turkey relations are very good. High-level meetings have taken place between the two sides, and a sense of trust and confidence has developed. The embassy issue is also in process and will be resolved soon."

Although relations with European countries and the European Union have not significantly progressed since the Islamic Emirate came to power, political analysts believe that Turkey plays an important role in fostering Afghanistan’s relations with European countries.

"Our relations with Turkey are fruitful from two dimensions. One, it is an Islamic country and a powerful one among Islamic nations, and the other is that part of Turkey is European and it has ties with Europe and NATO. In terms of maintaining relations with Turkey, they can represent us in EU and international conferences," said Zaki Mohammadi, a university professor.

"Since Turkey is an active NATO member and has direct connections with European countries, it can play a significant role in attracting commitments from European nations to address Afghanistan's challenges and bring the country closer to fulfilling their expectations," said Najiburrahman Shamal, a political analyst.

Previously, Cenk Ünal, Turkey’s ambassador in Kabul, said that his country was working to cooperate with Afghanistan in various areas.

He also emphasized that relations between Afghanistan and Turkey have always been based on mutual support for peace and stability.
