Mirdef Alqashouti, the new chargé d'affaires of Qatar's embassy for Afghanistan, met with Mohammad Nabi Omari, the first deputy minister of interior, to discuss bilateral relations, regional security, and the expansion of joint cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Interior’s spokesperson, the Qatari diplomat emphasized his country’s support for stability in Afghanistan and expressed Doha’s readiness to strengthen both security and political cooperation with Kabul.
Abdul Mateen Qani, the Ministry of Interior spokesperson said: “Dr. Mirdef once again reiterated his country’s support for Afghanistan’s security and stability and stated that Qatar seeks to expand cooperation with the Islamic Emirate in various fields.”
Some political analysts believe Qatar can play a constructive role in easing international pressure on the Islamic Emirate, especially in efforts to lift sanctions and attract humanitarian aid for Afghanistan.
Fazl-ur-Rahman Oria, a political analyst, said: “Qatar can support humanitarian and economic aid to the Afghan people and help in lifting sanctions imposed on Afghanistan. It can also play a key role in improving relations between Afghanistan and Western countries, especially the US.”
Janat Faheem Chakari, a political analyst, said: “Qatar should develop a strategy for how Afghanistan can be reintegrated into the United Nations framework, which could pave the way for real solutions to Afghanistan’s ongoing challenges.”
Earlier, Suhail Shaheen, the Islamic Emirate’s ambassador in Doha, announced that acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi is expected to visit Qatar within two weeks. During the visit, discussions will focus on enhancing bilateral engagement and cooperation between Kabul and Doha.
