Panjshir Governor to Enforce Decree Against Costly Traditions

Mohammad Agha Hakim, the governor of Panjshir province, has announced public awareness efforts regarding the implementation of a new decree by the leader of the Islamic Emirate aimed at curbing "harmful customs and traditions" in the province.

The decree addresses the manner in which engagement ceremonies, weddings, mourning events, and celebrations for returning from Hajj and Umrah should be conducted, and it calls on the public to strictly adhere to it.

Speaking about the decree, the governor said: "We are making serious efforts to enforce this decree. Its implementation in all areas will bring convenience to the people, and hopefully, the public will positively welcome it."

Many traditional ceremonies and celebratory events across the country are known to be costly, and numerous citizens have repeatedly criticized such practices.

Residents of Panjshir also view the enforcement of this decree as beneficial in reducing the excessive and burdensome costs associated with various ceremonies.

Saifullah Ghafoori, a Panjshir resident, told TOLOnews: "When customs go beyond limits, they negatively impact young people. Those who don’t have a good financial situation can’t get married, and if they do, they end up in debt for the rest of their lives."

Ahmad, another resident of Panjshir, said: "These customs force families to incur heavy expenses, and in the end, they are compelled to sell their land and property. Therefore, eliminating harmful traditions is a good move."

According to officials, Article 3 of this five-article decree also emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about its implementation.
