Murat Nurtleu, Kazakhstan’s foreign minister, announced in a phone conversation with Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting foreign minister of Afghanistan, that he would soon pay an official visit to Kabul.
During the conversation, both sides emphasized the need to strengthen diplomatic relations and expand trade and transit ties between Kabul and Astana.
Zia Ahmad Takal, head of public relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said: "The Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan called for increased engagement at the ministerial level and stated that he would soon visit Kabul officially."
Kazakhstan’s foreign minister also expressed his country’s readiness to invest $500 million in the construction of the Torghundi–Herat railway in Afghanistan.
Ahmad Firdaws Behgozin, an economic affairs expert, stated: "With the construction of the Torghundi railway, job opportunities in Afghanistan will also be created. Additionally, it will help foster good connections with several countries."
Seyr Quraishi, another economic affairs expert, said: "The Torghundi–Herat railway project is expected to become a major transformation for Afghanistan, bringing substantial economic benefits such as increased trade, job creation, and infrastructure development. This project could be a positive step for the country."
This comes as earlier, in early Sawr of this year (solar calendar), a high-level delegation from Kazakhstan, led by the deputy prime minister and minister of economy, visited Kabul and held discussions with officials from the Islamic Emirate about investment opportunities, expanding economic, trade, and transit cooperation, and railway projects between Kabul and Astana.
