Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting Minister of foreign affairs, arrived in Tehran today (Saturday, May 17) at the official invitation of Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister.
During the visit, Muttaqi is scheduled to attend the "Tehran Dialogue Forum" and hold discussions with his Iranian counterpart and other senior officials regarding existing issues in bilateral relations.
Zia Ahmad Takal, head of public relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said: "The delegation, which includes Dr. Abdul Latif Nazari, Deputy Minister of Economy, is set to accompany the Foreign Minister to the Tehran Dialogue Forum and meet with Iranian officials to discuss bilateral relations."
This is Muttaqi's third official visit to Tehran. Some political analysts believe that given the current challenges in Kabul-Tehran relations, this visit could be influential.
Abdul Nasir Shafiq, a political affairs expert, stated: "Our relationship with Iran should be stronger than with any other neighboring country, as we share historical and cultural ties, and Iran has never historically been in conflict with us."
Currently, the deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran, transit issues, and water rights are among the most important topics in Kabul-Tehran relations.
