An Afghan delegation led by Mohammad Haneef Atmar, acting foreign minister, will visit Iran on Sunday to discuss the migrants' issues, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.

The delegation will talk to Iranian officials over the drowned Afghan migrants on the border, and reported mistreatment.

The delegation includes officials from the ministries, officials from Presidential Palace and also from the National Security Council, according to MoFA.

Gran Hewad, a spokesman for the MoFA, also said that the delegation will discuss the ways of strengthening and developing cooperation between the two countries.

Four days ago the Afghan International Relations Committee of the House of Representatives summoned officials of MoFA and the Ministry of Immigration and criticized them of incompetence and neglect for not addressing the mistreatment and drowning of Afghan immigrants in Iran.

According to the committee report, of the migrants who were thrown into the river by Iranian border guards in early May, 13 have disappeared, the bodies of 18 have been found and 19 were rescued.

According to the committee report, the Iranian government must pay compensation to the families of the victims and punish the perpetrators.

Iran has previously denied the involvement of its border guards in abusing and drowning Afghan refugees.

Also, three Afghan nationals were burned to death after their vehicle crashed into a guardrail in Yazd province recently after being reportedly shot at by Iranian police.

These incidents have sparked reactions in Afghanistan and protestors have called on international organizations to probe the killing of Afghans in Iran and to ensure that justice be brought to the perpetrators.
