An Afghan female journalist Najwa Alimi was awarded the Swedish Per Anger Prize in Sweden.

The Per Anger Prize is one of Sweden’s most acclaimed and respected prizes, and is awarded to those who act in exemplary ways in the area of democracy and human rights.

Officials from Reporters Without Borders have said that Alimi was honored with the prize because of her activities in the areas of human rights and freedom of speech. 

“I work on a wide range of topics that exist in the womb of the society and eats the society like a termite and move girls towards isolation,” said Alimi in an interview with TOLOnews.

Alimi currently works with Zan TV.

Alimi will receive the award in Stockholm next month.

“This prize does not only belong to Najwa, but for all the women of Afghanistan, particularly to women journalists,” said Khalida Rashid, director of Zan TV.

“This is the first time that an Afghan woman received this prize,” said Fareeda Nekzad, an Afghan journalist.
