Afghan Student Wins Eight Medals At Int’l Events

Zakaria Shinwari a 16-year-old an Afghan student has dominated many international events among students from different countries and has secured eight gold and bronze medals from various competitions.

Recently, Shinwari competed in two international competitions among students from the United States, Boston, India and Bulgaria where he secured four medals in mathematics, physics, and biology.

Shinwari says he always prioritizes the name of his country rather than his own benefits.

“Last year, I participated in a biology competition in India and managed to win a gold medal. Similar events were held inside Afghanistan and also in Bulgaria where I won medals,” said Shinwari.

“Students from seventy-nine countries were there. Almost 1,400 students had attended. Zakaria took part in science,” said Shinwari’s father Waqif Shah Shinwari.

Zakaria has studied at an Afghan-Turk High School in Kabul which was raided by security forces last week to hand over the management of the school to the Turkish government.

“I very concerned about the problems which have been gripping our school and I don’t know what will happen in the next few years. But I keep trying to study in a better place and participate in competitions,” Shinwari said.
