Afghans Join Relief Operation to Help People in Flood-Hit Areas

Afghans from various regions of the country have been contributing in the relief and rescue operation to help their countrymen after flash floods swept several provinces including Charikar city in the central province of Parwan early on Wednesday.

The tragedy forged by recent floods in Parwan left at least 110 people dead. At least 120 others were wounded. 

Statistics by the Afghan State Ministry for Natural Disaster Management reveal that the overall death toll from the floods in the Afghanistan is about 160 people and 250 others were wounded.

“We have allocated 15 million Afghanis to address the needs of the victims of the recent incident. The amount has been transferred for this purpose. We also supplied foodstuff to over 5,000 families,” said Ahmad Tamim Azimi, a spokesman for the State Ministry for Natural Disaster Management.

Meanwhile, a group of youth in Kabul launched street to street aid collection campaign to help the survival of the floods in Parwan and other areas.

“Whenever an incident happens, solidarity is the most important thing that we need to consider. We are here today to show our sympathy and solidarity,” said Mahdi Mudabir, a campaigner.

“Today that we are in need of support, we should not ignore their voice, we have to demonstrate our presence and solidarity with them,” said Sakina Nayman, a volunteer.

Also in Logar province, according to the local officials, dozens of families have been displaced following recent waves of heavy rains and floods.

“We have lost everything. This aid is nothing to us,” said Abdul Saboor, a resident in Parwan.

Over 4,000 people were badly affected by the floods in Parwan, according to the government data.

Floods were also reported in Kapisa, Kabul, Panjshir, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Paktia, Paktika, Nuristan, Nangarhar, Laghman, Khost and Ghazni provinces.
