Several journalists stated Tuesday that they face restrictions while covering security incidents, saying the Islamic Emirate security forces forbid them from taking videos.

They also claimed that security forces mistreat reporters at the scene of an incident. Journalists said Islamic Emirate officials must remove the current obstacles and provide facilities for accessing information.

“Reporters are not allowed on the scene, which is great problem. When a reporter is not aware of the incident, then he/she cannot inform viewers. We ask Islamic Emirate to take steps on the issue,” Said Shah Agha, a reporter.

“Journalists are forbidden from accessing the area and covering the incident well and from reporting it to the people. People want exact insights,” said Wasim, another reporter.

Breshna, who works for a domestic media outlet, said that she has faced such behavior repeatedly and security forces prevent reporters from taking videos. “Journalists never allow us to film videos at the area to let the people know about the incident,” said Breshna.

“Unfortunately, there are complaints that reporters face restrictions, especially for covering security reports. I hope security departments will cooperate so people know the truth they want to know,” said Hujatullah Mujadidi, head of the Afghanistan Independent Journalists Association (AIJA).

Meanwhile, the Islamic Emirate officials said they refuse to allow reporters on the scene because of their safety.

“In some areas where security problems exist, we do not allow journalists because some incidents which may happen,” said Khalid Zadran, spokesman for Kabul Security Command.
