During a program outlining its achievements over the past year, officials from the Ministry of Information and Culture announced that the mass media law has been sent to the leader of the Islamic Emirate for the second time but it has yet to be finalized.
Hayatullah Muhajir Farahi, Deputy Minister for Publications, stated that a plan to establish a support fund for journalists has been finalized. Moving forward, all forms of assistance to journalists will be channeled through this fund. "Anyone who wants to support journalists, whether individuals, organizations, or governments, can do so through this fund, which includes many members and representatives from the media," he explained.
Additional accomplishments highlighted by the ministry include preventing the smuggling of antiquities, developing a plan to protect ancient artifacts at the Mes Aynak site, establishing a Supreme Language Council to prevent the extinction of various languages and dialects, and reinforcing the surroundings of the Minaret of Jam.
Atiqullah Azizi, Deputy Minister of Culture and Arts, emphasized the vital role of media in the country and the ongoing efforts to improve access to information. "We need cooperation with the media, which is essential for us. Without it, both the public and the global community will remain uninformed. If cooperation is lacking, we pledge to provide timely information and remind provincial directors to do the same," Azizi stated.
Officials also reported that nearly 9,000 foreign tourists visited Afghanistan's historical sites last year, generating 48 million afghani in revenue.
Qudratullah Jamal, Deputy Minister of Finance and Administration, noted that a curriculum for a Tourism and Hospitality Institute has been approved to train professionals in the sector. "The institute was launched last year, and its educational program, which grants graduates a post-baccalaureate certificate, has been approved," he added.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Younus Rashid, Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, mentioned that memorandums of understanding have been signed with hundreds of private universities, institutes, and educational centers, resulting in 1,581 individuals receiving free education and 17,787 receiving discounts.
The Ministry of Information and Culture currently employs nearly 4,000 people, with over 1,700 working in the provinces and more than 2,200 serving as cultural attachés in the center and other countries.
