Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Foreign for Political Affairs, said on Wednesday during a seminar at the Academy of Sciences that the gap between the government and the media in the country must be eliminated.
Speaking at the seminar titled "The Role of Media in Strengthening the Islamic System," organized by the Academy of Sciences, the Deputy Minister called on the interim government to strengthen media outlets in the country.
He said: "There should be no gap between the government and the media. The government and the media should work as one. Therefore, it is essential for the Ministry of Information and Culture and those working in media-related departments within the government to remain in constant contact with the media."
At the same time, Hayatullah Mohajer Farahi, the Deputy Minister of Publications at the Ministry of Information and Culture, pledged cooperation with media outlets in the country.
He stated: "We have never adopted a confrontational approach toward the media. There is a clear address for media outlets, and the doors of the Ministry of Information and Culture are always open to them."
This comes as media-related laws in the country have yet to be ratified.
Earlier, the acting Minister of Information and Culture announced on the 6th of Aqrab (solar calendar) this year, during a meeting with journalists in Paktia, that the previous mass media law aligns with Sharia and the principles of the Islamic Emirate. He added that, with minor amendments, the law would soon be made available to the media.
