Dasht-e-Archi District of Kunduz Cleared of Taliban: MoD

The Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz province was cleared of Taliban late Friday night, Ministry of Defense officials said Saturday.

In a statement released by the ministry, special forces in a joint operation conducted an operation late Friday night around 1:30 am in the center of the district and “destroyed enemy strongholds” and “inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy.”

According to the statement, clearing operations are still under way in several other areas are under Taliban control.

The MoI said that in the past six months 12 districts in Ghazni, Badakhshan, Kunduz, Takhar and Faryab provinces have been fully cleared of Taliban.

There are no reports of casualties.

The Taliban has not commented.
