Eight Foreign Nationals Killed In Taliban Attack In Kabul

A security source said on Wednesday that at least eight foreign nationals were among those killed in Taliban attack on Green Village compound in the east of Kabul on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The Ministry of Interior said in a statement the attack left 16 killed and 119 others wounded.

Among the foreign nationals was a representative of the Romanian Embassy in Afghanistan, the Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement adding that another Romanian citizen was severely wounded in the attack.

The source said that 25 other foreign nationals were wounded in the attack.

The source added that five of the foreign nationals were from Nepal and two others were British.

The attack targeted Green Village compound, a residential area for foreign nationals and offices, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, Nusrat Rahimi, said a day after the attack on Sept. 3.

He said the blast happened at around 9:55 pm Kabul time.

Mr. Rahimi said that five attackers were involved in the attack who were killed after Special Forces entered the area.

At least 400 foreign nationals were rescued from the area by police, he said.

The blast was huge enough to be heard in different parts of the city.

The Green Village compound was targeted by a truck bomb explosion back in January in which four people were killed and 90 others were wounded.
