Election Will Lead Afghanistan To Enduring Peace: Ghani

Presidential candidate and incumbent President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in his first campaign rally outside Kabul, in the eastern province of Paktia on Thursday, stressed the need for a timely election and said the polls are the only way to ensure an enduring peace in the country.

Ghani said the Taliban has no experience in construction and that they are keeping foreigners happy by shedding the Afghan people’s blood.

“We want Afghanistan not “Talibistan” [the land of the Taliban],” Mr. Ghani said, referring to the Taliban’s demand for establishing their so-called emirate system in Afghanistan.

He added that he will not allow “warlords” to interfere in government affairs if he is reelected in September polls.

Mr. Ghani’s first running mate, Amrullah Saleh, said Pakistan is trying to get the approval of the Durand Line as an official border, therefore, it continues to interfere in Afghanistan’s affairs.

Mr. Saleh said he was the first politician from northern Afghanistan who travels for a campaign rally to the southern parts of the country.

He said that Pakistan is not in favor of a strong army for Afghanistan because they want to take the land which they could not take it from “our ancestors”.

“But Mohammad Ashraf Ghani will not do this,” Mr. Saleh said, referring to Pakistan’s demand for approval of the Durand Line as an official border line between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The election campaign began on July 28 but so for six out of 18 presidential candidates have held public gatherings for their campaign. But Taliban has warned that they will target campaign rallies to prevent the “so-called” election.

The group has warned the people to avoid attending campaign rallies in order to prevent from being harmed.

However, despite this, a group of the Taliban led by the deputy leader of the group, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar met with Uzbek officials in Uzbekistan.
