President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday headed to Helmand province with a high-ranking delegation of officials where they were expected to meet with a wide range of stakeholders in the province, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
According to the statement Ghani arrived early Sunday morning in Lashkargah city in Helmand province.
Ghani is expected to meet with local officials, security officials, tribal elders, religious scholars, women and youth of the province, the statement said.
Ghani will also pay his respects to the families of late parliamentary election candidate member Abdul Jabar Qahraman who was killed on October 17 in an explosion during his parliamentary election campaign in Lashkargah city.
During his visit Ghani will also inaugurate a number of development projects in the province, the statement added.
Reports also indicate that after Ghani’s arrival in the city, a rocket was fired on Lashkargah. No casualties were reported, officials said.
