Government Reviewing Haqqani Prisoner Swap: Palace

The Presidential Palace said on Saturday that Anas Haqqani, Mali Khan and Hafiz Rashid, three key members of the Haqqani group, are still in government custody, said Palace spokesperson Sediq Sediqqi on Twitter.

Sediqqi said the Taliban did not comply with government conditions, which delayed the (prisoner) exchange process.

Sediqqi said the Afghan government will review the prisoner exchange process and will act based on the national interests of the country.

President Ghani announced on Tuesday that the three prominent members of the Haqqani group would be released ‘conditionally,’ presumably meaning that they would be swapped for two Western university professors held by the Taliban.

Recently, sources told TOLOnews that the three inmates of the Haqqani Network were returned to Bagram air base.
