Interior Ministry Plans to Legalize Weapons, Armoured Vehicles

The Afghan Ministry of Interior on Tuesday said that it plans to legalize carrying weapons and using armoured vehicles by the end of November.

This comes several days after the Afghan police and lawmakers faced off over the use of armoured vehicles and unregistered license plates.

Meanwhile, a list issued by the Ministry of Interior shows that over 110 members of the parliament have not received licenses for the weapons they are carrying.

“We hope to tackle all the technical problems by the end of Aqrab ( November 21), whether in the Ministry of Interior, in the National Assembly, in the Ministry of Finance or in the Traffic department. Hopefully, with the legalization of these vehicles, the concerns that exist among the people will be removed,” said Massoud Andarabi, the acting Minister of Interior.

A member of parliament admitted that he has eight weapons and emphasised the need to negate the issue.

“Five months ago we consulted the Ministry of Interior at the parliament’s security department, and we have licenses for our weapons,” said Khalid Assad, a member of parliament.

Khushbo, who worked as an election observer in Kapisa province, claims that an armed man who was associated to a member of parliament obstructed her work during the election day.

“There are many people who prefer to remain silent, because they are being intimidated, particularly myself. They call me and threaten me,” said Khushbo.
