The first deputy speaker of parliament said on Monday that 10 days after a task-team was assigned to investigate corruption allegations against parliament’s head secretariat, no progress has yet been made. 

Deputy speaker Humayun Humayun meanwhile accused parliament speaker Abul Rauf Ibrahimi of interfering in the task-team’s job and said Ibrahimi wants to appoint his relatives to the task team. 

Following the corruption allegations against parliament's head secretariat, Khodai Nazar Nusrat, MPs tasked four commissions in parliament to form a task-team and investigate the allegations. 

“Parliament speaker acted in violation of the law and has changed the MPs decision from four commissions to five commissions. He has included the complaint commission in the investigation which is not related to such issues,” said Humayun.

Ibrahimi however rejected claims of him interfering in the task-team and said speaking about the corruption allegations in parliament was shameful.

“The complaints commission and all five commissions are our religious brothers and there is no corruption in this regard,” said Ibrahimi.

The corruption allegations and remarks made on Monday were met by mixed reactions by MPs.

“The issue should be investigated transparently and the result should be shared with the public,” MP Sayed Ikram said.

Finally five commissions were assigned to investigate the issue and share their finding by next Saturday. 

A number of Kabul residents meanwhile gathered outside parliament and said Humayun had grabbed their land. 

Humayun however denied these accusations and said he has not grabbed any land and these are all conspiracies against him.

“This issue has been fabricated against me,” said Humayun.
