No Way To Power Except by Votes: Hekmatyar

Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of the Hizb-e-Islami party, on Tuesday at a press conference in Kabul said  “there is no other way to reach power but through the people’s votes.”

Hekmatyar said that his party had prepared a peace draft and it has been shared around, and it will also be shared with the media.

“We need a political consensus between both sides of the conflict to reach peace,” Hekmatyar said.

“Intra-Afghan peace should be held in the country without involvement of any foreign side,” Hekmatyar said, adding that “all sides should honestly agree to a ceasefire, the release of prisoners and the merging of opposition fighters in security forces.”

“No one must break the ceasefire. There is no other way” he said.

Hekmatyar believes that “Every peace agreement should keep the people’s rights and the national sovereignty of the country.”

He also said that the current war has been imposed by foreigners on Afghans: “Today we are facing the issue because of foreigner’s meddling.”
