In his routine daily speech to the people, Atta Mohammad Noor, the ousted governor of Balkh, called government an inactive and treacherous administration and argued that poverty and insecurity had increased due to the lack of leadership.

Noor, who is also the CEO of Jamiat-e-Islami party, said the foreign aid to Afghanistan is not managed properly and that government “has no plan to improve the economy”.

“This demand would continue and we will move on without fear until the people have not achieved their right which is relief from poverty and achieving security and actual justice,” he said.

He criticized government for President Ashraf Ghani’s recent move to pension off army generals and said the process is dependent on ‘ethnic interests’.

“The 85-year-old uncle (of President Ashraf Ghani) is the ambassador (of Afghanistan) in Russia. Meanwhile, in many other positions, individuals have been appointed who are walking with canes but are working in high ranking positions,” he said. “When a youth wants to apply for a job, they say he does not have the experience for it, but the job is ready for others, who have links with the president, before they return back from London and US’s Fulbright courses.”

This comes after the Presidential Palace (ARG) and Jamiat-e-Islami party of Afghanistan resumed their negotiations this week – after a 14-day break – in a bid to break the stalemate that erupted between the two sides following the dismissal of Atta Mohammad Noor as Balkh governor.

Delegations from the two sides entered dialogue for the tenth consecutive round on Tuesday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul.

However, sources speaking on condition of anonymity, said the talks ended without any breakthrough.

In December the Presidential Palace announced that Ghani had approved Atta Mohammad Noor’s resignation as governor of Balkh.

Noor later insisted that he will remain in his position unless a political agreement is reached between government and Jamiat.
