Female Students in Badghis Call to Reopen Trade Schools

Female students at agriculture and accounting institutes in Badghis province said they are not allowed to go to their institutes, just as female students over sixth grade are prevented.

They added that since the political change in the country, the doors of learning institutes have been closed for female students in the province.

They asked the Islamic Emirate to provide educational opportunities for them.

“We want to learn, we ask the Islamic Emirate to reopen our institute, education is our right,” said Layeqa Armani, a student at the Agriculture Institute of Badghis.

Meanwhile, some women’s rights activists in Badghis said that women, same as men, are entitled to an education, and it is their basic human right.

“When a man has the right to education, in the same way a woman also has the right, there should not be any obstacle in the way of women’s education, health, or work. Women also have the right to live,” said Zarmina Adib Azizi, women’s rights activist.

However, officials of the institutes confirm the closure of the learning institutes for the female students, saying the reopening of these institutes is beyond their authority and is related to the leadership of the Islamic Emirate.

“The leadership has banned them from going to institutes, whenever they allow them to go, then we will get ready,” said Awaz Ghairat, manager of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Department of Badghis.
