Herat Municipality: More Than 100 Development Projects Have Halted

Herat municipality said that due to the government not approving the budget of this department, more than a hundred large and small development projects in Herat have been stopped.

“The municipal administration has prepared the technical documents and the procurement documents of the projects if the budget is approved, we will sign an agreement with companies,” said Abdul Lalah Qazi Zada, the technical and professional head of the Herat municipality.

This year’s development projects in the Herat municipality require 700 million Afghani, and this department still has 300 million afghanis in reserve budget that it can spend on development projects.

Meanwhile, some Herat residents called on the government to provide the required budget to the municipalities so that the cities of the country can develop.

“We call on the capital to provide the required budget to the municipality to complete the projects,” said Faisal, a Herat resident.

“The budget has to be provided for the municipality so they can start work on the project and work can be provided for youth,” said Abdul Raziq Jami, a Herat resident.

Municipal funds are obtained from people's taxes, and the people provide a large part of this budget by paying fees for the cleaning of the city.

“People in Herat province, when they hand over their cleaning and tax money to the municipal budget, the Herat Municipality should be given the authority to use it in public benefit projects that benefit the people and bring ease to people's lives,” said Mohammad Rafiq Shaher, head of Herat Experts Council.

This year's projects of Herat Municipality include the development of the entrance roads to the city, the construction of aqueducts, and the beautification of the city.
