Residents of Dara-e-Noor, Nangarhar Demand Urgent Road Repairs

Several residents of the remote areas of Dara-e-Noor district in Nangarhar say they are facing significant problems due to the poor condition of the roads.

The deteriorated roads have made it difficult for them to transport their patients to medical centers on time, and they are urging officials to address this issue.

Ahmad Iqbal, a resident of Dara-e-Noor district in Nangarhar, said: "When we take a patient from here to Jalalabad, we face many problems; they die on the way. When they reach the hospital, a regular patient would be hospitalized for two days, but this patient has to stay for four to five days."

Bazgul, another resident of Dara-e-Noor, said: "There are six, seven to eight villages on this unpaved road, such as Utran, from Utran to Majgandol, Choh, Lamtak, Sutan, Laghik, Sar Ghalik, Bamba Kot, Shimul, Kandok, and Shugyali, which are all above this unpaved road."

The green and scenic valleys attract every passerby, but the bad roads have made traveling to these beautiful areas difficult.

Some drivers say that due to the poor condition of these roads, they have to spend their earnings on repairing their vehicles. They are calling on officials in the caretaker government to construct these roads.

Daryab Khan, a driver, said: "Students who go to the city or other districts or other villages face many problems."

Manawar, another driver, said, "It's been twenty years that our road is unpaved. Vehicles get  damaged, and patients face many problems."

However, local officials in Nangarhar report the start of construction work on some roads in remote areas, including Dara-e-Noor district.

Mansoor Sapi, the Director of Construction at the Nangarhar Public Works Department, said: "Inshaullah, all the roads under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department have been planned, and we will repair the roads and include new roads in the program."

According to the Nangarhar Public Works Department, in 2023, 28 kilometers of roads that were damaged by rain and floods in various districts of this province have been rebuilt.
