Mohammad Tahir Jawad, the head of Education in Faryab, identified the lack of standard buildings for numerous schools in the province's center and districts as a serious challenge.
He noted that out of 498 schools in Faryab, 155 lack proper buildings, forcing over 80,000 students to study in open spaces or rented houses.
The head of Education in Faryab said: “In Faryab province, there are a total of 498 schools, of which 155 lack buildings. In these 155 schools without buildings, about 82,150 students are studying under the sun, in open spaces, tents, and rented yards.”
The Badghisi Girls' High School in Khwaja Sabz Posh district is one such school whose building was destroyed by recent conflicts, leaving its students to study in open areas, rented houses, or tents.
A number of students in Faryab are calling for the construction of standard buildings for their schools.
Khatira, a student, said: “We study under the sun and in the heat. We request the Ministry of Education to build our school.”
Zahra, another student, said: “Our school has burned down. We need a school to be built so that we can study comfortably.”
Residents of Faryab are also urging officials in the interim government and aid organizations to build new schools and rebuild destroyed schools in their areas.
Abdul Haq, a resident of Faryab, said: “Our school is currently destroyed. You can see that this school is not suitable for teaching. Our students are studying under tents and in the scorching sun. The students are facing many difficulties.”
Abdul Qayoom, another resident of Faryab, said: “The need of the area and the students is that attention should be given to this school. The head of Education and the Ministry of Education should seriously consider building this school so that students can come and learn properly.”
According to Faryab's education officials, in the current solar year, in addition to rebuilding destroyed schools, new buildings will be constructed for a number of schools.
