Residents of Khas Uruzgan District in Uruzgan province expressed concerns about the lack of healthcare services and female doctors in their district and are calling for an expansion of these services.
They said that the 110-kilometer road in Khas Uruzgan District, extending east from Tirin Kot, the provincial capital of Uruzgan, is mostly unpaved and rough, making transportation difficult for residents.
"There is no hospital here; all the hospitals have been destroyed. There are no doctors, and where there is a doctor, there is no medicine," said, Abdul Wahid, a resident of Khas Uruzgan District.
"Another problem with the hospital is that we brought a child here. He has been under treatment for a month, but there is no specialist to treat him," said Abdul Bari, another resident of Khas Uruzgan District.
"People in need are now forced to transport their patients to the center by car, but I cannot afford to take my patient to the central hospital at my own expense," said Abdul Hamid, a resident of Uruzgan.
However, local authorities assure residents of this district that their demands will be addressed.
"Many clinics are active in Khas Uruzgan District, and numerous experienced doctors are working there. Nevertheless, we are working to raise the issues faced by the district residents with higher officials," said Agha Wali Qureshi, head of the Information and Culture of Uruzgan.
Previously, local officials reported the construction of 16 healthcare centers in the past three years in Tirin Kot and several districts in the province.
