Protective Zoning for 87 Historical Sites in Helmand Completed

The Helmand Directorate of Information and Culture announced the completion of protective boundary determination for 87 historical sites in the province.

Recently, a technical committee from the Ministry of Information and Culture completed the survey and zoning of these historical areas across Helmand’s central and district regions, aiming to prevent illegal land grabs.

According to officials, the next phase will involve the construction of protective walls around some historical sites.

"With the assistance of a three-member technical team sent by the Ministry of Information and Culture, we have completed the survey and boundary determination for Helmand’s historical areas. We are now awaiting the ministry’s decision to proceed with further measures," stated Sultan Mohammad, head of Culture and Tourism at the Helmand Directorate of Information and Culture.

Several cultural figures and archaeologists have welcomed this step, emphasizing its importance in preserving and protecting historical sites from destruction.
"Helmand is home to 73 historical fortresses, each of which holds significant historical value and has been officially registered as a heritage site," said
Mohammad Ismail Shariatyar, an archaeologist.

"Defining protective boundaries for Helmand’s historical sites will ensure better preservation and keep them intact for future generations,” Saddam Mirni, a cultural activist, highlighted.

"The initiative by the Directorate of Information and Culture to define protective zones for historical sites will safeguard these invaluable heritage assets from human interference and contribute to their long-term preservation,” said Hafiz Ahmad Nusrat, another cultural activist.

Following rising concerns over land grabs targeting historical areas, particularly parts of Bost Fortress, local authorities have confirmed that unauthorized houses built within these historical zones have been demolished.
