At least eight civilians were killed in a roadside mine blast in Herat province, in the west of Afghanistan, on Sunday, local officials confirmed.
Another civilian was wounded in the explosion, Herat police spokesman Abdul Ahad Walizada said.
The incident took place at around 10pm local time in Gulran district in the province, Walizada said.
He said the victims were workers who wanted to travel to Herat city from Gulran district and from there to Iran.
All the victims were travelling in one vehicle, he said.
No group has claimed reasonability for the explosion.
