Sources: IEC Head Signed Decision to Announce Results

Sources told TOLOnews that Hawa Alam Nuristani, head of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), signed the decision to announce the initial presidential election results and is waiting for other members of the commission to sign the decision.

Mirza Mohammad Haqparast, spokesman for the IEC, said: “The IEC leadership will have a meeting now, after the meeting they will share the official stance with the nation.”

Meanwhile, the Free and Fair Election Forum of Afghanistan (FEFA) accused the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) of not mediating between the IEC and the presidential candidates.

“Unfortunately, the IECC has turned into a complaint registration office. It is not using its authority firmly. It carries out its responsibilities in a very conservative way and remains just a spectator,” said Yousuf Rashid, head of FEFA.

Mohammad Raza Fayaz, spokesperson of the IECC, said: “The IECC will hold a consultative session tomorrow (Friday), in the session the IEC, election campaign teams, media and civic societies will participate.”

Since the beginning of the current week many reports have been spread that the presidential election results will be announced soon, but sources told TOLOnews that disagreement within the IEC has caused delays.
