Takhar’s Baharak District Cleared of Insurgents: MoD

The Ministry of Defence reported on Saturday night that Afghan security forces had “completely cleared” insurgents from Baharak district in Takhar, a northern province.  

The MoD claimed that 89 Taliban fighters were killed, and 67 were wounded in the fight to retake the villages of Abdal and Takhta Kaparak.

The ministry did not report on casualties of government forces.

Abdulhaq Shafaq, provincial governor, confirmed the operation in Baharak but said operations are still ongoing in Khwaja Ghar district, north of Baharak, as well as around the provincial capital, Taluqan..

The Taliban has also confirmed clashes with security forces in some parts of Takhar.
