Six-hundred Taliban militants have rebranded themselves in northern Jowzjan province by changing their physical appearance and raising black flags in the name of Daesh, according to provincial officials.

These statements were expressed Wednesday by Jowzjan Police Chief Gen. Faqir Mohammad Jowzjani after rumors about the presence of Daesh fighters grew in several parts of the country.

"Taliban are now operating under the name of Daesh by raising their flags," Jowzjani said. "The number of these militants has reached 600 causing insecurity in a number of districts."

However, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) officials have repeatedly rejected the growing fears of Daesh, saying they were the same militants with new brands.

MoI spokesman Sediq Sediqqi had recently said that the security agencies have considered a number of plans to curb these militants.

"Our forces are fully prepared for the coming spring to respond with full force to all the militants under any names," Sediqqi said.

The Daesh group has been widely present in Syria and Iraq where their fighters have seized some large areas in the countries.

The rumors about the sightings of the newly-emerged militants began from southern Helmand and Nimruz provinces where some local officials and army commanders confirmed the news.
