Mawlawi Abdul Ghafar, the Taliban-designated shadow district governor of Almar district in Faryab, was killed in an airstrike in the province, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said in a statement on Sunday.
The airstrike took place in Khawja Gauhari village of Almar district after Afghan air forces targeted a Taliban’s haven in the district, the statement said.
“Six vehicles and some weapons were also destroyed during the airstrike,” it said.
The Taliban have not commented on the incident.
