Tensions Rising Over Reduced Pakistani Visas

Pakistan issues less visas for Afghans since many Pakistani diplomats in Kabul accused Afghan intelligence troops of harassment.

Even the embassy in Kabul issued at least 3000 visas for Afghans, but now applicants for Pakistani  visas say that the embassy issues less.

Sources at Pakistan`s embassy also confirmed that issuing visas has  been limited for Afghans since the harassment.

Nasim, an Afghan visa applicant, said that he faced many problems since the reduction of visas.

“Every morning we come. One office has opened and people come at two or three o’clock at night to wait for a turn in the line," added Nasim.

Doud, another applicant said, “we have waited two nights for a turn, but we have not received a turn. They closed the door and went.”

Pakistan`s embassy urged an investigation into their diplomats being harassed in Kabul in order to increase visa issuing, however the  Afghan Foreign Ministry has not commented yet.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Mirza Katawazi, a member of the Wolesi Jirga, said that the Foreign Ministry is busy in the political clashes: "The Foreign Ministry is busy in their internal clashes about where and when to appoint new people. It is a big problem, they should investigate that,”

Ahmad Saeedi, a former Afghan diplomat in Pakistan, says that Pakistan wants to discredit the Afghan government in front of Afghans.

“Pakistanis know the Afghan problems, and misuse the visa issuing, to discredit the government,” said Saeedi.

The Pakistan embassy in Kabul issued at least 3000 visas for Afghan citizens and now only in Jalalabad are vjsas issued normally.
