Two Children Killed in Balkh Explosions

At least two people were killed and eight others were wounded in back-to-back explosions in Mazar-e-Sharif, capital of Balkh province, on Tuesday morning, local officials said.

The blast happened around 8:30 am local time after explosive devices exploded close to the regional hospital in Mazar-e-Sharif, said Adel Shah Adel, a spokesman for the provincial governor.

“Two children--one 14-year-old and one 10-year-old-- were killed in the blasts, and eight others, including a police officer, were wounded,” Adel said.

“Investigations are ongoing and more details will be shared soon,” he said.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blasts.
