US, Romanian Soldiers Killed In Kabul Attack

A US and Romanian soldiers were killed in a car bomb attack in downtown Kabul on Thursday, the Resolute Support said in a statement.

“One service member was from Romania. In accordance with NATO policy, Resolute Support will not disclose additional details. Further information will come from Romania,” the statement added.

“The second service member was from the United States. In accordance with US Department of Defense policy, the name of the service member killed in action is being withheld until 24 hours after family notification is complete,” it said.

The Taliban claimed reasonability for the attack.

The attack took place at around 10:10 am local time after a suicide car bomber detonated his explosive close to a National Directorate of Security (NDS) checkpoint in the heavily fortified area in downtown Kabul.

At least ten people were killed and 42 others were wounded in the attack.

The attack happened three days after a truck bomb attack targeted Green Village compound in the east of Kabul that killed 16 people including five Nepalese, two British and Romanian nationals and wounded 119 others including foreigners.
