Historic Tomb of Nasir Khusraw in Danger of Collapse: Locals

The Tomb of Nasir Khusraw, one of the historical sites in Yamgan District, Badakhshan, is facing the risk of collapse.

Local residents said that no attention has been paid so far by the authorities and relevant institutions for the restoration of this tomb.

Nasir Khusraw Balkhi was a prominent scholar, poet, and writer of the country, who is said to have been born in 1004 CE.

This tomb is located on rocky hills, the surroundings of which are at risk of collapse due to rainfall and other natural factors.

"The entire Quran is written on the walls here. Nasir Khusraw was a very knowledgeable and wise person. People come from far and wide to see this place," said Imam Muhammad, a resident of Badakhshan.

"Currently, Nasir Khusraw's tomb is nothing more than ruins. We are the destroyers of Nasir Khusraw, and we Yamganis have not been able to protect this precious heritage of ours," said Najibullah, a resident of Badakhshan.

All the pillars, beams, and entrance and interior sections of this tomb are beautifully carved and adorned with various colors and verses from the Holy Quran.

Local residents are urging the interim government officials to save this tomb from the risk of destruction.

"Our request from the government is that since this is a historical monument, it needs to be preserved from destruction," said Sayed Abbas, a resident of Badakhshan.

"Therefore, it needs to be restored, and its doors and rooms should be repaired," said Mohammad Tahir, another resident of Badakhshan.

Meanwhile, the Badakhshan Department of Information and Culture said that the issue of restoring this tomb has been discussed with the Ministry of Information and Culture and that the restoration work will start soon.

Zabihullah Amiri, head of the information and culture department in Badakhshan, said: "We have discussed this matter with the institutions and the Ministry of Information and Culture, and God willing, the restoration of this historical tomb will begin this year."

According to historical narratives, Nasir Khusraw was born in 1005 CE in the province of Balkh and lived at the courts of the Ghaznavid kings and later the Seljuk court. He eventually turned away from the Seljuk court and went to Yamgan District in Badakhshan, where he spent the last 25 years of his life.

Nasir Khusraw Balkhi was highly knowledgeable in philosophy, medicine, astronomy, and mathematics, and his works include the Safarnama, Jami' al-Hikmatayn, Zad al-Musafirin, Khwan al-Ikhwan, Roshana'i-Nama, Sa'adat-Nama, and Dalil al-Mutahharin.
