Shor Bazaar is one of the historic markets of Kabul, known among its residents as the “Old City" due to its more than two hundred years of history.
Located between Sang Tarashi Street and Bala Hissar in Kabul, Shor Bazaar represents the ancient city of Kabul, bearing its name and identity.
However, according to some local residents, the market earned its name "Shor Bazaar" due to its lively and bustling nature.
Mohammad Sarwar, a resident of Shor Bazaar, speaking about the history of the area, said: "The houses of Shor Bazaar, the Ashuqan O Arefan, the Reka Khana, all these were known as Shor Bazaar. It was the only market in Kabul; there was no other market like it."
Shor Bazaar was once home to heroes and wise men, learned individuals who lived there.
Another local resident, Mohammad Homayoun, said: "At first, it was called Sher Bazaar. People who raised the flag of Islam during the Second Anglo-Afghan War lived here, among them, descendants and relatives known as Abdul Aziz Langar Zamin."
Kocha Tangi Jummah, also known as the closed alley, is one of the older alleys with a two-hundred-year history located in Shor Bazaar, Kabul.
Mohammad Zahir, another resident of Shor Bazaar, Kabul, said: "This alley used to be very wide; now it has become a bit elevated, but it was very spacious before. People used to have difficulty passing through it, with most of its places being covered beyond Shor Bazaar."
Shor Bazaar in Kabul was once like a "Chaar Chata" covered from beginning to end, but now none of its covers remain. Despite not retaining its past appearance, the market still maintains the bustling activity of traders as before.
