The Directorate of Preservation and Restoration of Historical Monuments under the Ministry of Information and Culture has announced the completion of restoration work on more than eight historical monuments across the country.
Officials from the directorate stated that these monuments have been restored since the beginning of the current solar year, with work on five additional monuments still ongoing.
Mohammad Hasib Nasimi, the head of the Directorate of Preservation and Restoration of Historical Monuments, said: “In the year 1403 (solar year), the directorate has worked on restoring around 15 historical monuments. Fortunately, the restoration of over eight monuments has been completed, and work is continuing on five others. Additionally, restoration of three more historical sites may be completed this week.”
The restoration and preservation of historical monuments, considered a vital effort in safeguarding the country’s cultural and historical heritage, hold great importance.
Faqir Maiwand, a former senior advisor to the Ministry of Information and Culture, emphasized that restoring historical sites can play a significant role in attracting tourists.
He said: “The tourism industry has progressed significantly worldwide. I hope the current government opens the door to tourism in Afghanistan to protect its cultural heritage. This step could be a promising move for safeguarding our cultural treasures.”
Previously, the Ministry of Information and Culture had reported the completion of restoration work on 28 historical monuments over the past three years.
